Kevin & Kezia: Dark Bar, No Compromise
The brief
Kezia and Kevin held their wedding party at Atlas Bar. On the surface the brief was simple, a wedding reception, but here is what made it different.
Atlas is famous. Not just for its award-winning cocktails, but for being one of the darkest rooms in Singapore. The whole space runs on controlled ambient light: the backlit bottle wall, the Art Deco brass, the warm glow that makes everything look like a film still. That atmosphere is the reason people book it.
Kezia also had a specific grade and look in mind. It was not our usual convention style, the clean and bright look we often deliver. She wanted something moodier and more atmospheric, and she wanted the prints to carry that same feeling, not fight it.
The approach
The easy answer would be to flood the room with light. That is what most photographers do in a dark venue. But that kills the whole point of being at Atlas. So we lit every frame to work with the darkness, not against it.
Al was the photographer on the ground that night. He worked the room with the confidence that comes from years of roving, making every group feel comfortable, keeping the energy high, and reading the light in real time. An assistant followed behind, handing each print straight to the guests, no self collection needed, so no one had to leave the party.
Our directional lighting kept faces clean and flattering while the ambient warmth stayed in the background. The backlit bottles, the dim corners, the soft glow on the marble, all of it stayed intact in every print. The result does not look like a well-lit convention. It looks like Atlas.
We also adapted the grade to what Kezia wanted. Deeper tones, less lift in the shadows, the kind of look you expect from a portrait session rather than a roving print setup.
The result
Kezia and Kevin were happy with how it turned out. The prints went into guests’ hands that same night, and the full digital set followed after, all carrying the moody look she was after.
It is not our most typical booking. A dark cocktail bar, a specific grade request, and a couple who knew exactly what they wanted. That is exactly the kind of challenge worth taking. Our instant print service adapts to any venue and any taste. The approach changes, the standard does not.
"Al was excellent at making my guests feel comfortable and providing them with fun prints to take home. There was an assistant that went around and handed the guests their prints, no self collection needed."
